My almond milk matcha latte, the ritual I look forward to every day

Green almond milk matcha latte dusted with cinnamon

Matcha has become a true daily ritual for me. It is a moment I look forward to: I warm the almond milk, whisk the green powder, watch the foam appear and finish with a dusting of cinnamon. A few simple minutes that create a pause and bring a different kind of energy to the rest of the day.

I love matcha for its fresh, grassy flavour, its own beautiful kind of sunshine colour, and the energy it gives me. Personally, I experience steadier focus and do not feel the sudden drop I sometimes notice with other caffeinated drinks. That is my own experience: everyone responds to caffeine differently.

What is actually in matcha?

Matcha is a powder made from whole green tea leaves. It contains polyphenols, including catechins such as EGCG, which are studied for their antioxidant activity. Antioxidants help protect our cells against oxidative stress, although that does not turn one cup into a miracle cure. Our overall lifestyle is what matters.

It also contains caffeine and L-theanine, an amino acid naturally found in tea. Research into these two compounds suggests that their combination may support short-term attention and alertness. Amounts vary between matcha products and serving sizes, and the way they feel varies from person to person too.

Ingredients for one cup

  • 1 level teaspoon matcha, about 2 g
  • 60 ml hot water, around 70 to 80°C
  • 180 ml almond milk
  • A pinch of cinnamon

My little ritual, step by step

  1. Sift the matcha into a cup or small bowl to remove any lumps.
  2. Add the hot, but not boiling, water and whisk briskly in an M shape until a fine foam appears.
  3. Warm the almond milk without letting it boil. Froth it if you enjoy a lighter texture.
  4. Slowly pour the milk over the matcha, then finish with a dusting of cinnamon.
  5. Take a few minutes to pause and enjoy it while it is warm.

What I love most about my matcha may be the ritual as much as the drink itself: a green, gentle and bright moment in the middle of my day.
